I found the tip of a knife or a dart today, I was looking at the flaking on it and there was some odd things going on, i was curious as to what you guys think happened here.

The removal near where the piece broke seems to be much deeper than the rest of the removals. It seems inconsistent with the rest of the flaking

This one is the really strange one, a flake has been driven all the way up one side originating from the base. I can’t really explain what happened.

So I’m thinking maybe the removal on side 1 weakened the piece and it broke and then maybe the long removal on side two was an attempt to salvage the piece by turning it into an arrowhead then it was abandoned for some reason, maybe the hole in the material?

Any other ideas are welcome.

It looks like it may have been over-exposed to heat--fire-popped.

The possibility that at the time of impact, the tip separated from the base, also allowing, due to the force of impact, causing it to flake in a forward manner. Causing the forward looking flake. I would say there was a lot of kinetic energy in force to cause what you are seeing. Just a thought.

Interesting thought. I’ve never noticed a flake running up the side like that.
