I apologize for this additional post, but I believe it warrants its own tread. I found it in the same box as my previous post, but didn't include it, as I did not think that it was anything special. I just listed it, and I have had two offers of buy it now from two diff buyers. Currently six bids and counting. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

Its called a "Loss Proof" zippo. First it was just the Loop zippo then it was renamed to the Loss Proof. Its pretty collectible.

The little hook was the only thing I could see that made a difference

Big caddy is correct. It would at one time have this little elastic lanyard on it. The most expensive Zippo I ever sold was a lost proof from the Sportsman series made in the late 1950s. Mine had a fly fisherman on it and it went to a buyer in Hong Kong for $498.00. I picked it up in an antique mall for $10. + Tax. I

no date code, means its pre 1960, the patent number places it between 1937 and 1950, let this one ride to the end and let the bidders duke it out. That is definitely the sleeper in your lot. Amazing find. In that condition I woukd expect to pull $150-200, with the first of the month coming up and tax returns coming in, maybe more

Can you link us to the auction? I'd like to follow this one myself.

With the patent number, 3 barrel hinge, and 16 hole chimney, you can date it to 1947-48. It was the first year they offered it and called it a Loop lighter. With it being an original loss proof in great condition, I'd say it should do very well. Rare Zippo, nice find!

If you fill it too full, you always know what pocket it's in.

Nice! My highest was $450 for a vietnam zippo, 1962 with a south vietnamese unit insignia, presented to a us army colonel quartermaster over there scoping out logistics, dead mint in box. Sold to a museum. Also sold them a bunch of 35mm slides of saigon, etc the guy took.

Nice find! Information like this is why I love this site! Will be looking for zippos with that loop.

Wow, that's getting some good bidding action. Yours is different than the one I had. Mine was the later model with the triangle shape hook on the far right of this photo. Yours looks to be the very first loss-proof Zippo produced. The condition of yours is really nice. It'll be fun to see how much it sells for. Thanks for sharing this.

Can't wait to see what it sells for.
Thinking that your posting will make a couple hundred dollars more than you might have made.
Another great example of why this site is so much fun.
Someone here will always know more than you do.
And are kind enough to share that knowledge.
Up until you posted, you had no idea of the value and rarity.
Kudos on the great score!
Carl

Curious, how much did the two people initially offer you?

Nice auction but if you don't mind my saying so,you should add all the info that people have told you about in this thread and change the title to add keywords if you can. The more info you can add, the more eyeballs will find your listing.

Since it's a sleeper item as it stands, perhaps you might want to cancel out the auction entirely and relist it with a more detailed title and description.

Thanks to all once again for all of the feedback and input. I appreciate it.

OtakuDude, That is an excellent recommendation. If I would have known about it sooner, or prior to listing it, it would have definitely made a lot of sense. I'm not one to cancel once there are bids, so hopefully there are some Zippo collectors that bid it up a little more. Thank you for the advice. It is definitely appreciated.

You can't change a description, but you can add to it. That would at least help attract anyone searching for those terms.
