I think it goes to a farm implement , maybe for cutting hay .

Ya sure, they come in John Deere green too. They're called sickle guards around here. Any other goodies in the old hay field?

It sits of front of the blades shown in this link. It keeps the grass/hay from binding in the sickle blades.
