Man charged for refusing to leave NC jail

WENTWORTH, N.C. (AP) — A man who'd just been released from jail in northern North Carolina was arrested again for refusing to leave the jail after authorities wouldn't give him a ride to a motel.

The News & Record of Greensboro reports (Man released, jailed again for refusing to leave : News-Record.com : Greensboro & the Triad's most trusted source for local news and analysis) that 37-year-old Rodney Dwayne Valentine was charged with trespassing.

Valentine was released from the Rockingham County jail Saturday morning after being behind bars since May 22. The sheriff's office says he asked them to drive him to a local motel and they refused. Deputies charged Valentine with second-degree trespassing when he had refused to leave the jail by Saturday afternoon.

He's being held on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 9. It was not clear if he has a lawyer.

I see what you're saying, but they're not a taxi service and shouldn't be used like one.

At this point prisons offer better benefits than the outside world..

Free medical, cable TV, a great gym, and 3 squares a day to name a few :laughing7:

Heck, I was almost thinking about signing up for a bit, I need a break :laughing9:

Due to many factors we have thousands of people in this country who can't cope with life. Many x-cons can't wait to get back into prison so they feel secure again. They know the world inside the prison but the outside world horrifies them. Actually this is even a greater factor than laziness with the chronic welfare crowd.

Yea I say keep putting him back in until he's spent at least 20 years behind bars
learning from all the other criminals.
Then when he is no longer able to live in the real world, throw him out like a rabid pitbull & see how it goes.

all for the want of a gallon of gas,
and the fear of being nice to someone just freed from jail :laughing7:

If they arrested him in the first place, and using tax-payer funds to drive him to the jail, the least they could do is ensure him passage to the nearest motel.
