What’s your favorite MD shovel

Grave Digger Tools Nemesis

since i'm in the woods i use me a good ole wooden handle shovel

I have a Leche, and very pleased with it so far.

Genuine military e-tool. Can serve as a self defense weapon too.

Skid steer with a backhoe. Simplifies things greatly.

The piranha shovel does me right. This Louisiana mud turns in hard clay easy and it goes through roots like butter.

I like(d) the Glock shovel. Very lightweight yet surprsingly stable for "normal" soils here. Locking mechanism tended to clog shut, though.
Recommendation: Yes if not for extreme heavy soil.

Got now an Herbertz folding shovel, heavier yet also more stable.
Recommendation: Yes, ok also not too expensive for the quality. To save weight you can leave the second part of the stem including saw at home.

Also got a handshovel for finer work (optional) and a Japanese "planting knife" (recommended for carving around roots).

Now that I think about it my piranha to quite heavy for me after hours of lugging it around. I need something light weight with teeth to cut through roots.

Does anbody use a some kind of garden hoe or an ice axe?

Seen an old guy with it and he said there is nothing better. I thought its to easy to damage the target and also inconcevient fpr deeper holes, but well he was really happy with it .

I just got a Lesche Sampson with serration on 1 side. I absolutely love it. The ground around my area is like concrete and this shovel cuts it like a knife through butter. The size and shape make for very clean, precise holes too. Weight isn’t bad either

Same here,, Lesche Sampson,, but I have the Ball handle. Been using it for over 5 years. Very happy with it.

WWII US GI E-Tool, just be sure and wash out the adjuster with tap water if you have been digging in wet salt sand, or it will freeze up and is a bear to get loose again.

Root slayer shovel,cuts through anything!!!!

Lesche Sampson T-Handle Shovel - been using it about 3 years no issues.

I also have a Sampson T Handle. I really like the shovel but it is just a little prone to bending. I get aggressive while digging sometimes. On my second one which is a replacement due to this issue.

I got my Nemesis on the way as we speak. Thing looks like it built to go to war. I also like that the blade is a little bigger than the Sampson. Always need another scoop for the 6" + deep items.
