Found all this in my front yard. About a foot down , the ground is about 8 inches deep with ash, coal clunkers, slag, sandstone and a very weightless pumice like rock. It's in a wide spread area. Could all tbis have come from a home furnace or is it more likely to be a dump area for one of the historic iron blast furnaces in my area? Oh and tbe cast iron , is I believe a blade from a plow... Any ideas on age?

In my opinion ,your your theories about what you have dug ,ring true Davers:icon_thumleft:

What does the other side of the iron piece look like? Are the edges smooth, or does it look like this piece was broken off of a bigger piece? Also, it looks like there is a slight curve to it?

Backside is flat.

No curve, just the little shelf.and not sure about it bring broken off or not

It reminds me of a chunk broken out of an old cast iron bath tub, with the protrusion being the leveling leg .. not sure that's what it is though.

Here is a pic that will give you the general idea of what I was trying to convey above:

I see. Thank you. However I did take it to the historical society and showed it to farmers I know and the consensus, is an old plow blade. Here is a pic of one someone else found..
