I went to a place where there are two very well-preserved stone foundations. There is masonry so they aren't super old, but they were both on the 1875 atlas of my area. I've hunted here in the past with relatively little success. Ended up finding a wheatie (1912) that was literally on top of the ground, a flat button, a spoon, a very large axe head, and this whatsit.
It reads: Yorkshire Relish...By Royal Appointment to H.M. the King. It also has some Latin words in the inner parts: SOIT QUIMA
NSE....DIEU ET MON DROIT (I think...) I believe the image is the Royal Coat of arms of the U.K.
It is pretty small and thin (1 3/4" by 2 1/4"). Can't find too much info about this one.
Edit: looking at the words again I think the first ones may be soit qui mal y pense (is the motto of the order of the garter, the highest order of chivalry existing in England?)
But what's with the relish?
Any ideas?
