Hard to determine if the loss is due to pre or post stamping...

If its a post condition, the value is approximately $0.01 :coffee2:

send it to me for better examination! :tongue3:. seriously idk, probobly post stamping though

My take from looking at the pics is post mint damage. Either that portion of the coin was exposed to acid or it was hit on that portion and then circulated as it looks smooth.

The 1955 series had a few issues including the double die.
Maybe yours was a 55? :dontknow:
1955 doubled die
Distinct doubling of the date and lettering on the obverse.

I'm going to have to go through my pennies now, I just found one like that the other week, no evidence of a number ever being there behind the 5!

I agree with Mackaydon. I have had coins like that, they ere the result of a grease filled die.

was probably struck by a Grease Filled Die as mentioned above. It is considered an Error but would not have a huge value. probably $5 +/-. It is also possible to be damage but looks like a grease filled die to me. Hope this helps.

Is that coin yours? If so is it steel with copper over it?? or just paint or something??

Interesting, these coins look like they were struck by the same die at about the same time to have the same exact error or whatever it is. That's pretty cool!!

No those are pics of the top picture BOXING63 posted
the center one I Changed to "Greyscale"

& the top & Bottom Pics
I Used "Red scale reduction"

I Would have guessed it's a 55
but the date is too close to the edge
in my opinion it has to be a 51

It looks like it might just be worn.

Yep the Edge looks warn there.

If it wasn't I'd say Filled Die

Just my two cents,,, I think some one, who knows maybe a kid in school in metal shop took it to a buffing wheel. That's what it looks like to me.
