Wheats, IKE's

Found 0 keepers in 5 rolls of nickels. Found 7 wheats (oldest is 1934) in 13 rolls of pennies. Found 25 IKE dollars at a bank, none silver. Out of all 7 banks only 5 halves were found, none silver.

HH!

Keep looking for those IKE'S Just last Saturday I found a bank with 306 IKES (I think I have over a thousand now) only one worth keeping a silver/proof IKE 1971s (I think)

It is only 40% though so the value($4.44) is less than one 90% JFK ($5.08) but I will take it. ;D

Since when is a 90% JFK over 5 bucks???

Coolcash,he is referring to the spot price of silver.@ $14.04/ounce a 90% half contains $5.08 worth of silver, however no dealer will pay you that much for it,which is probably why you questioned the high price.

An average buying price @ $14.04 should be around $4.00+ -.

A common date morgan/peace contains $10.86/silver but a dealer won't pay you that much either.

And a proof/silver IKE('71-'76) contains $4.44/silver but if it is sealed or otherwise undamaged a dealer will pay you more than this for it because of it's collector value, however if you find it in a roll or bag in contact with other coins(circulated) it WILL be damaged and only worth the silver content and a dealer will likely pay you about $3.50 for it.

Hope this clears things up for you.

No, I knew all that...

BUT, I had no idea silver was at 14 an ounce. last I checked it was 12. Cool!

Thanks!

Cyberdan is correct. I was on a recent roadtrip during Spring Break and found a Branch with $880 in IKE's. Of the 880 only four were keepers. 71-S silver, 73-P, 73-S clad, and a 1972-D "Peg Leg". I still don't know the value of the peg leg yet if anyone can give some guidance that would be great. I have already sold of 1/2 of them at a 20% premium.

And then today, I had a teller give me 29 IKE dollars and instead of an IKE she gave me a 1923-D Peace :). I think it makes up for the branch only having $3.50 in halves.
