which of these detectors is better the tejon or the vaqureo

I want to know witch of this detectors is better for what I'm doing the tejon or the vaqureo .

here is a list of the type of detecting i will do.

beach hunting
relic
coin or totlot
jewelry !!!!

That about sums it up for what i will do with the two detector. Ive not bought one as of yet of the tesoro brand .
But would love to hear what everyone has to say to steer me in the right choice.

Either detector will serve you well in these applications. I like the Vaquero for being well rounded, but I have also used the Tejon for all but the beach and have had good results. I use the Tejon for relic hunting and the Vaquero for parks. Of course I now have the Silver Umax and love that too. The Tejon has the dual discriminator which I use alot while relic hunting. For parks and beaches, I am happy with the single discriminator of the Vaquero and Silver Umax. I do feel that the Tejon punches the ground a little better for depth, but that is my opinion. The Tejon uses 8 AA batteries to a single 9Volt on the Vaquero. In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with either one, provided you give them time to get a feel for them. Good Luck

I never met a Tesoro I didn't like, I don't think you could go wrong with either. But the Tejon is without a doubt the deepest detector in the Tesoro lineup.

The Tejon is a terrible detector for saltwater beaches it loves dry sand but hates wet salty sand (at least in NC) but as usual it depends where you are hunting you should ask the people that hunt in your area. (where ever that is) VLF detectors which both of your choices are have problems in mineralized salt water. I cannot ground balance my Tejon in wet salty sand that is why I have a Sand Shark. I use the Vaquero for the same type of hunting you listed, it serves me well. I use it on Texas beaches with no problems,in dry sand I run the sens at 5-7. Sometimes i'll even submerge the coil a couple inches, if I do submerge it I turn down the sens to about three. Sometimes I hit a small patch of very dark sand and it can get chatty, but these are few and far between. As far as depth on dry land, my deepest coin was a clad dime at a little over 10". Most finds are the usual 2-6+ inches with a solid signal. check my post "Vaq depth" I know large Iron gives a good return at depth, but digging a 26" hole to find the target was not expected, its not like the object was a car or bicycle frame.

I have both and if I had to give up one it would be the Tejon. I think the V is deeper in some dirt while the T is better in other places. For the beach the V is way better.

The Tejon has an ultra-slow all-metal mode plus way too much sensitivity built in causing it to false over anything that is high salt or high iron.. It sucks in high iron soil to the max. That's because it uses manual ground balance. (Auto) GB handles bad ground better because it retunes so much faster - when drifting in quickly changing high mineral soil.

Any well-seasoned detectorist already knows this, or he SHOULD know this (not just we engineers), and I'm surprized they didn't already mention it. The Vaquero has similar problems too in both cases, but not as great as the Tejon. The CZ-70, CZ3D, CZ-7, F-70, F-5 all handle beaches very well, and so do some Minelabs and high-end White's, but the Minelabs run as slow as a slug when the going gets rough. The Fishers are fast though.

"Auto" ground balance makes it sound as though the detector does something its in fact not able to do. Fixed is a better term and means that on very bad (or good) ground you have to open up the detector and adjust an internal trimmer to get the best results.

I would be inclined to look at another brand because for Relics I would want the Tejon but certainly not for the beach work (apart from the dry at the top).
