Hi All,

If you had to have one Tesoro that you were going to use for Coins, Jewelry and Relics, which one would it be??

(I'm asking cus I'm in the market) ;D

For land hunting I'd take the Tejon. It's by far Tesoro's best newer detector for coins and relics.

But of all Tesoro machines ever made I'd take the machine I use--the Bandido 2 uMax with 12x10 concentric coil.

The Tejon is good but not as good as the Bandito with the 12x10. Using this rig makes you laugh when you search those "hunted out" sites.

Just before it snowed I took the Bandido to a spot that is way beyond any hope of producing anything other than trash foil. It's a place where other THers will laugh you to scorn if they even see you hunting it. Within 15 minutes at that site I dug a horse harness buckle (ca. 1890) and an early RR spike (measured 16 inches deep). This gives just a small hint of what this rig can do.

New I'd go with the Tejon. Used I'd go with the Bandido or Eldorado (one of this type). Oh, don't forget that big nasty 12x10 ;)

The Lobo is a very good machine that was mostly designed to be used in all-metal mode. The ground tracking only works in all-metal mode. Discrimination mode is factory preset just like the DeLeon and Cortes.

Depth wise the Lobo is not a deep dog in discrimination mode. It's deep enough for most types of coin shooting but doesn't compare with ground balance models.

If you're mostly hunting in discrimination mode (like 95% of THers today) but desire factory preset ground balance, you'd get a better deal buying a used DeLeon or new Cibola. These have the same basic factory preset ground balance as the Lobo. All Tesoro factory preset detectors get about the same depth in discrimination mode (same type/size coil).

I sold my mint DeLeon for $275 (free shipping) on ebay. Lots of these show up on the bay or on forums for sale. Just post a WTB on the Find's Forum and you'll make a great deal. Like here there are lots of very nice people there. If you wait a bit you'll sooner or later find someone who'll sell their DeLeon for $300 postpaid. Or, just buy a new Cibola.

The Tejon, on the other hand, is far deeper than the factory presets due to the squelch (ground balance) feature and greatly enhanced circuitry for discrimination mode hunting. The chatter happens for two main reasons:

1) too high of sensitivity
2) poor ground balancing on the part of the user (the big one)

Experienced users of the Tejon love the faint chatter. Some chatter means super depth in VLF detectors. This same thing holds true with all the really deep VLF machines. All of them are a little noisy when set to extreme depth.

These faint chatterings are no real problem because the good target signals are obvious. As a general rule, your "silent search" detectors are shallow to medium depth machines. Usually your detectors that tend toward a little noise are your deep seekers.

Take a Tejon and use it properly and you'll find stuff you never dreamed was at your favorite site. Watch Tesoro's video on how to ground balance.

Thanks Guys,

I'm pretty certain that its going to the be the Tejon. I want a detector that I can tweek for optonal preformance! This sound like the one for me ;D

Plus, you can get a used Tejon dirt cheap if you look at the classified section long enough.

I'll be buying a Tesoro soon, don't know which one though. Probably a new Silver.
By the way Easy Money, you might be wanting that detector back after you shoot that 338. Brownings are awesome rifles, bought one for my son. Beautiful gun. Have you seen the price of a box of shells lately? Nothing is cheap to shoot now days.

Love the Cibola - it can be power tuned. It also accepts the HOT coils. It also has a pinpoint button which I prefer. Just a few thought on that subject!
