The Acme "City" Whistle was introduced approx 1875 and was probably the whistle used in the first referreed football (soccer) game played in Nottingham in 1878. Still trying to find out how long the production run on this whistle was.

http://www.drcdurham.ca/htm/history_of_the_whistle.htm

The Acme City trademark was registered in 1907 according to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J_Hudson_&_Co

A military collectible site was stating the following about police Bobby whistles as being from Victorian age thru WWII era, but I don't trust seller's sites for actual historical proof, just extra info to help research.
Original Item: Originally used in Victorian Era England through WWII, these are Genuine British Issue Police nickel-plated whistles, maker marked. Actual year of manufacture varies by whistle (most in the early 1930's) but the style remains the same. Very Good Condition. All marked "The Acme City, Whistle, England"
