Think whites makes a sinking coil I could be wrong. I pulled the thing that holds the bottom shaft in out of mine then added some lead and epoxy on top of lead. Then add pice back to the shaft. Works great in the water you will want a extra bottom shaft for out of the water as it is to heavy with the lead to use out of the water.

I had one that I gave away because I got tired of forceing the floating coil down underwater. You could tape a sock filled with sand to the coil or shaft for extra weight. The weight can be removed for land hunting. It's a nice detector, you'll enjoy it.

Sandman

The sand sock thing would work out OK if you are not hunting in the river or ocean currents there the drag would be a problem.

i have to look i have the newer coil not sure if it floats or sinks.

I have a BH ID that I bought in Aug 2006, the coil was never a problem for me. I how have an Excal and haven't used the BH in several months. I will probably sell it only because I am not getting any use out of it, not because there was a problem with the coil. I was very happy with it when I was using it.

just sent my surf pro back to white's and they took the heavy coil off and replaced it with a lighter one no charge great people

There is no optional coil for the Beachhunter. The stock coil is not weighted. Try getting a wrist weight used in exercising or walking and just wrap it around the lower end of the shaft using the velcro on it to secure it in place. When on the beach just slip it off and beach hunt with no weight problem at all. 8)
