Whites Bullseye II Pinpointer Switch Repair

I just recently repaired my Whites Bullseye II switch. My modification is similar to the others but I tried to minimize the changes to the pinpointer.

I used a Radio Shack switch PN 275-1571. I think it was ~$3 for a two pack. (picture #1)
I cut off the switch leads & removed the old switch but left the switch bracket in place.
I cut a slot in the bracket from the top for the new switch (picture #2).
I soldered about 3" of wire to each switch leeds I had cut off.
Soldered the wires to the new switch.
Put the new switch in place. It is a tight fit. I had to push the adjustment resistor and another resistor over toward the black tube for the probe. Make sure that the two resistors are not touching!
Tighten down the nut to hold the switch in place.

It all fits together very nicely. (see pictures # 3 & 4) From the outside you can't tell that the modification has been done.

This probably sounds like a stupid question but what kind of wire? I tried to change it and I cannot get it to work. so I have done something wrong. But at least I did get my old merlin pinpointer to work 2 wires had came loose. Please let me know .

My Bullseye started to act up again and thought my replacement switch had failed.

Turns out that the switch was just fine.

The battery contacts had some oxidation on them and also needed to be re-bent into the battery compartment for better battery contact.

So the switch modification is still going strong after 10 months.

I took mine to whites and they gave me a new one.

My replacement switch failed. Lasted a year and 5 month in heavy use! Used the other switch that came in the Radio Shack pack. Hope I get another year and a 1/2 out of it.
