Whites Coin Master 2DB Series 2

Having some issues with my old Whites Coin Master 2DB Series Detector. At times it works great and then has little depth and no discrimination. When it is working, air testing shows a quarter at about 5 inches and discrimination works great and when it is not working, air testing a quarter show about 1 1/2 inch and no discrimination ability. At times when button on handle is pressed in it shows good depth and discrimination.
I realize this is an older machine but I would love older detectors and would like to get the machine working again. Hopefully some day I can teach my grandson how to use an older Coin Master.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
