Who can identify this?

Hey people. I live in a very old historical district part of my town. Last week, bought a MD, and went out into the woods. Within 20 minutes, I found this, among other things. They were all easily identifiable (button, coins, etc), but does anyone know what the hell this is?

It's roughly half the length of a pen, and heavy for it's size; definitely brass.

Anyone know?
