this is a circa late 19C russian silver brooch. it is made of silver, green marble, and a photograph. it depicts a military man. i'm assuming he is Russian since the brooch is made by Faberge. however i don't have a lot of knowledge about old military uniforms...
can anybody positively ID the uniform as russian? or who the guy might be?
he has 3 stars on each side of his collar. there are some stripes and medals, but the medals are cut off by the frame.
any thoughts appreciated!

Thats a tough one.

From the looks I would rather say not pre-revolution Russian (no shoulderboards, rank taps on collar) but Austria-Hungary (stars on collar as rank taps).

Also the stone being green look up "malachite" in an internet search since it was very popular in Russia.

In any case Faberge items may be worth serious money today.

The uniform is Austro Hungarian, but I don't know much more than that.... can you open the brooch? or possibly get a jeweler to open it if you're worried about damage? I would be curious to see if more of the medals might be hidden by the frame, or if you're extremely lucky there could be a name on the back of the photo.

The Wehrmacht Awards forum has an "Imperial Militaria" section, if you post it there someone might be able to give you a bit more info, if you do find anything else out about it, be sure to let us know.
