Found this ring out in the middle of a Michigan forest along the Lake Michigan shoreline. I have found a lot of 1700s - early 1800s Native American and fur-trade artifacts in the immediate area (not saying that its Native American or fur-trade related but just that it was found in the same area). The ring is fairly chunky (heavy) and somewhat crudely shaped. The gold is really soft/easily scratched and the scarab beetle stone is clearly hand-carved. There are initials scratched into the gold with no makers-marks present.

Super cool top-pocket find in my world. Any thoughts?

I'm thinking it's a grand tour era ring picked up in Egypt around the first quarter of the 20th century as a souvenir. That's just a thought :dontknow: Looks like a few grams of gold there.

Congratulations I believe that to be gold. Misshapen as it is if it was other metal goldplated there would be tell tale signs on not gold. The color looks right too. Have a jeweler test it.

Cool!I,d probably keep that if I found one.Good on you!

Wow Very cool! Congratulations on that keeper!

Yes, egyptology was extreemly in vogue at that time, you even see it in the cemetery graves from the era, everyone had ancient Egypt fever to the point of dressing like Cleopatra and entering their dead in Ancient Egyptian Revival tombs.

I am not fully certain. Its definitely made of stone and can reasonably eliminate flint, granite or sandstone.

That is definitely possible.
