Why I love dealing with my local coin dealers

I love my local coin dealers. They are honest, and treat me real good when I walk in to by some commemoratives. I used to buy on eBay, but I stopped after I started seeing stuff like this.

I know the seller has "clearly stated that the coin is a replica", but what happens when someone buys it, and sells it without mentioning that it is a replica.

Ahhh....to go back to when I was a kid and this damn world was somewhat sane.

I hear ya. I buy sometimes on ebay but In the back of my mind I am thinking I could get ripped off as it has happened several times before.

I too only buy from local dealers, and I have never bought anything on Ebay.

But, the listing clearly in the title "reproduction". I would think that anybody who bought this and felt they got fooled would have to be a borderline dimwit.

As far as somebody reselling it, then it would be up to the buyer to know he is not getting ripped off. I know that the average buyer is not going to spend the time it takes to really know what they are doing and they will need to depend on an honest dealer to sell them legitimate stuff.

But if somebody wants to get into coins, gold, silver, etc., there is no substitute for learning what is real and fake. It is not that difficult if a person really gets into it. Gold especially is easy, silver coins can be tougher- for example the decent Morgan fakes coming out of China*. I hear they are getting better and better over time- using the right combination of silver and other metals so the weight is correct, but selling them as numis cause they are in great shape.

I have made several bulk coin purchases on Ebay, and have come away satisfied. It is the local dealers that I don't trust. I feel they might take advantage of some buyers and sellers, and I have witnessed as much.

I checked out that auction and asked the seller a few questions. like where is it made how much does it weigh what is the silver content

I just got my responce from the seller. Here it is.

"100 mil silver plated copper base .royal oak mint makes them. made in usa"

Ouch. I noticed that someone already did buy 1 as it is a buy it now deal with more than 10 avail.

My understanding is that it is not legal to make these replicas unless they are clearly marked as such. I was just objecting on the principle...for what that is worth.
