Why oh why won't my "home" bank just CALL me when they get halfsies in?
Stopped by my local bank where I have a standing order of a box of halves per week. It wasn't in yesterday, so I figured it must be here by today. Sure enough, they have had a delivery according to a teller - but no, no halves until maybe Tuesday. Aargh. Oh well, maybe the holiday screwed up the schedule. Deep breath.
So I asked for some CWR dimes as a "consolation prize" as I called it. The teller started asking around for other CWRs, and lo and behold, one of the tellers has about $100 in CWR Half dollars.
ARGH. Dudes, I left my number with you guys (on the card where I requested a weekly half) and I keep mentioning that they should calll me if any other halves show up. All the tellers are super-nice and know me by now, so WHY WON'T THEY JUST CALL? I'm glad I stumbled up on this batch, but I kept trying to get across that they should call me the minute this kind of dump comes in! :-)
Alas, the halves were skunks. (I run across a lot of CWRs marked NS on the side, from a variety of banks in the area. Unfortunately it's accurate.)
On the bright side, I found a nice '58D Rosie out of $30 in dimes. I almost missed it - the edge was so dark and gunky that I had to pull it out and look at it. I could only figure out the date after attacking the thing with an eraser to get all of the grime off of it. I started to smile when I saw the "5" in the date and the silvery edges once I started cleaning it off....
I think I need to bring them more treats. Donuts on box pick-up day sounds in order... Maybe I'll write my phone number on the box with a sharpie! :-)
