Wierd "S" on 1968 dime...please help!

Wierd "S" on 1968 dime...please help!

Hey folks...
I need help figuring out what this "S" is. I dug this today with a few other dimes, brought it home and began to notice, all of the dimes I had dug had "D" mentmarks. So I was looking there anyway, when I saw something small protruding from above the date...

It appears to be an "S", and really small too (about half the size of a "D" mark)...

...but not where the "D" mark was.


Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. SPRING IS ALMOST HERE!!!

That "S" is part of "JS" for John R. Sinnock, the coin's designer. The "J" is also there on your coin, though somewhat obscure.

The "P" mintmark for Philadelphia was first used in 1980 for this coin.
