Cool pics Jeff, are there still coal fires under Wilkes Barre? I visited a friend that went to college there years ago. Smoke would pour out of man hole covers.

No fires under Wilkes-Barre Ken.The Coal Exchange building still stands.They are tearing part of the Sterling Hotel down though.

What about the Grassy area in front ?
Any chance on WB Allowing you to detect it ?

There are buildings there now.Everything is pretty much paved over.Just a little grass where they built the levee system.There is a large public park on the other side of the bridge leading into Wilkes-Barre that people often search.Only find modern coins though.

The fires still burn just outside of Wilkes-Barre proper. To see them you must visit Wilkes- Barre Mountain near Laurel Run. No fires ever burned under Wilkes-Barre, that was just the steam heat.
