Will Tesoro's warranty cover me?

My V was bought brand new; sent in the card and does have lifetime warranty. Recently my coil scuff cover cracked and broke in two; it had always been a really tight fight and w/ some dirt getting in even from minimal use, it's really difficult to get off. That's how it broke. Second, while detecting a hillside I lost my foothold and fell on my back, detector still in hand. The two support legs behind the armrest/arm bracket broke when coming in contact with the ground. Now when I set down my detector, it keeps running away from me. Will Tesoro cover these two parts for me even though It's my fault, but not due to abuse? Someone told me scuff covers aren't covered in the warranty, but wasn't sure and had to ask before calling their number.
Thanks

Your best bet would be just to call Tesoro and ask them, then you'll know for sure. :dontknow:

Re: Will Tesoro's warranty cover me?

Coil covers are usually considered as sacrificial pieces. They take the scuffing and dinging that would, otherwise, destroy the coil's own "skin". I would not think they'd be covered by warranty; doesn't make sense otherwise. Their costs are very low, so just buy another one. The old one has proven how wise it is to use them.

The support legs just might be covered. As suggested, call Tesoro and ask.

Tip: When using coil covers, I usually run a small bead of latex caulk around all of the edges of the coil cover. That prevents dust and water from getting into the void between the cover and coil housing. That works well on even the "spider" coils. I also put a small bead of clear caulk around the edges of the faceplate to help keep out dust and water (as in rain) from getting into the control box. A piece of wide, clear packaging tape covers the speaker holes to keep dust and water out of the speaker cones, too. The tape does not effect the sound quality and level.

Tip2: Some of us use cloth tape to give a "patched up" look to the detector to make it unappealing to someone looking for quick "steal and pawn" situation. If the detector looks "junky" it won't seem worth stealing. It is easy to "dirty up" white cloth surgical tape. You can spot paint the coil with a little paint, but make absolutely sure it is NOT a metallic or metalflake paint. Just plain lacquer or enamel paint. This camo technique is best used if you are hunting largely "iffy" neighborhoods. After all, the "iffy" neighborhoods are were the older houses and schools are usually located.

Well said Shortstack........ :thumb sup: You will never know what Tesoro will cover till you ask them. It has been my experience that they cover everything just because they are Tesoro. Even taking care of things that are beyond their control.

That dumbing up of new detectors with tape to make them appear junkie is an old trick to keep you out of harms way. This also applies to your appearance while detecting in poor areas.

Skyboy,
The armrest bracket / leg support on my Silver Umax just cracked recently after three years of use. (My fault)
I called them up and they shipped one right out, no charge, no questions asked, and with new nuts & screws too.
Just tell them it cracked and you will have no problem.
I can't help you on the scuff cover, but I doubt that is covered. I know what you mean though, they are tough to get off without damaging them due to the tight fit.

Tesoro is a great company & I highly recommend them to anyone.

It's been a long time ago, but there was a material you could buy called something like 'liquid plastic' or something like that. You could fix almost anything with it (plastic that is).
