Will the Sovereign XS 8" solid coil work on the XS-2?

I have a Sovereign XS-2.....and not sure if I am completely happy with the 10" BBS coil. Target separation seems to be a little bit of a problem at some of these homesites I have been hitting. I still have my old XS coil (white 8")....is there any reason I shouldn't hook it up and try it? If the connector fits, it should work, right? Thanks for any comments or advice....

Yes, the older white Coinsearch coil will work on all the Sovereigns. Mine works great on my Elite and GT.

Great! I may switch over this morning before going out....give my arm a little break as well lol. I have to get that straight shaft rigged up soon....or else hipmount the thing....

If the weight is a concern, better to go ahead and use the hipmount bag. I had a sovereign xs years back and it was a good machine. I did like it alot. I had the big 10 inch coil with it too. Ended up hipmounting it to make the weight bearable. That 10 inch coil is HEAVY. Its solid and can handle alot of work but the thing that always got to me was the weight of it. I dont think they used any foam in it to lighten it. I ended having to sell my xs to pay bills. That was many years ago and I never did get another though I did get other brands. One of these days though I wouldnt mind getting another just to have it to use once in a while. Just have fond memories of it.

I agree...that 10" coil is a monster! If I don't watch out, I will start looking funny.....with one "Popeye" arm.....

Glad you have a sense of humor. :headbang:

Wanted to ask you. The places you are hitting, they old homestead sites or home sites in town? My current sites are mostly old abandoned farmsteads, an old one room school site and a church site. Both have been torn down. And several tot lots and park. The weather this spring has been against me completely. Its either been snowing or like this last week, raining all day every day. I have had this month exactly 2 days that cleared enough for me to get a couple of hours searching in each day. And thats in mud mostly and or mud and gravel At the abandoned sites, its not a problem leaving tracks and such but you cant do that in the parks and grass. So cant do those usually. And the farmsteads are off the beaten track and takes a 4W to get up to them. And thats on a good day and no mud. Day like today, would get stuck in 30 seconds.

SO, here I sit...waiting for clear weather. STILL. Got a brand new Safari that I havent used yet...other than air tests. <sigh> I literally have a lake not far outside my door. Our ducks love it. They are out there swimming away.

Kriminy....just got another weather bulletin. Another storm warning. More rain.

Talk about cabin fever.

Here is a photo of an old sod/rock/mud and straw building. Falling down now, but its about 100 years old. Was the original house on this old homestead and was turned into a workshop/chicken coop. Just done some basic checking in it so far when I have been able to get to it.

Wow...that place has potential! I hunt both homesteads and old houses in town....I prefer the old homesteads...or at least hunting where they stood (in some cases). Sorry to hear you are getting rained on.....would like to hear how you like that Safari, once you get a chance to use it...

I was surprised at the number of abandoned places out here on the plains. Was hearing from guys asking where they could go hunt and scratching my head wondering if they used their eyes. These places I have been hunting....or trying to hunt this year anyway, are all within a couple of miles of my home. I didnt have to drive far to find them. Then just a matter of research to find the owners of the property. I was lucky on a couple of them....discovered I knew the owner...a good friend. But all you have to do is watch for the signs. And you know yourself what those signs are.

Signs of man being there. In many cases....going by a plowed field...and in one place in the middle of the field a patch of tall grass or stand of trees. Not many farmers going to leave an area unplowed. Thats money in the bank to them. So there has to be a good reason. Sometimes...a big rock...or a spring, or maybe just a low spot that gathers water and keeps it too muddy. But many other times its because that was/is a sign of man. Old foundations, maybe.

Its cleared up today finally. Waiting till late this afternoon, letting as much of the ground drain as I can before I head out. I am averse to getting stuck. The dirt roads themselves around here are nightmares without 4WD after days of rain, let alone going offroad. Hasnt warmed up as much as I had hoped. Still alot of cloud cover. A good warm sunny day would dry things up nice. But I am thinking I can get a couple of hours in today.

ITS A CONSPIRACY....... ::) I was getting ready to go out to the church site, got to the door....and.....it had clouded up...the wind started picking up, and it had turned cold. I figured..ok...wont last....

It did. In fact...got even colder...and the wind got to about 35 mph. with the temp about 40, made windchill....almost freezing... :'(

Well....tomrrow is supposed to be clear with light winds, untill evening. Then its supposed to be stormy again. Keeping my fingers crossed. If its at least warmer in the morning, I am hitting the door with the safari. AND the Omega. JUST in case.
I mean come on. My luck cant keep on like this. <sigh>
