Just a little heads-up for those of you using a Windows PC. The latest Windows update (mine has just downloaded but I haven’t yet installed it) disables one of the long-standing useful features of your keyboard.

Up until now, if you press [PrintScreen] (or [Alt] and [Printscreen] together) your screen view copies to the Clipboard as an image which you can then paste into any application. I often use it and it’s particularly useful for websites with copyright protection which don’t allow "Copy/Paste" or "Save As”, or where you want to copy an enlargement from part of an image after zooming in. Quick and easy.

The update “for your comfort and convenience” changes that to a default which opens up a new version of the Windows “Snipping Tool” as an intermediary step (it also includes a short video option).

You can turn that off by going to “Settings” then “Accessibility and Keyboard” where you then have the option to toggle on or off the “'Use the Print Screen key to open Snipping Tool” setting. If you have previously used this setting to select a preference, Microsoft claims that your settings will be preserved… but otherwise you’ll get the new default that opens the Snipping Tool.

If you toggle it to “off”, you can still access the Snipping Tool if you want it by pressing [Windows Logo] plus [Shift] and [ S ] simultaneously.

I actually have been using the snipping tool for a while over the print screen. Once you snip you can still paste the image into anything. It also allows you to select and snip exactly what you want instead of an entire screen which can look busy if you are sending it to someone or using the image to write instructions or something. Another benefit to the snip tool is you can set it on a timed delay. So if you want to get an image that requires some sort of mouse action or something, you can set the delay, perform the action, and the screen will hold in that position when the timer is up. Its good if you want an image of something that requires you to roll the mouse over it or do some other action. I think once you use it a bit you'll actually prefer the snip tool.

Thanks Red-Coat and Hbot37. Great information.
