It seemed that the birds knew there was an ice storm coming.
They emptied nearly 4 feeders of food today.
Great viewing
The Cardinals are really skittish hard to photograph them.

Chilly birds, all puffed up to keep warm. They know the cold is coming.

Nice group of images.
Middle of winter and all the predators are hungry.
Those cardinals probably realize they stand out against a nice white background.

Even in the summer they are really skittish.
Doves are also, the Downey Woodpecker will land on the next feeder and peek around the corner to look at me.

I looked in the backyard from the kitchen window the other day and a big hawk was sitting on the fence by the time I got my camera he was gone.
I got the camera on the fridge just waiting for him to come back.

Great pictures! I also enjoy watching the birds at my feeders, getting kinda expensive though, took me awhile but finally found me a old hand crank corn sheller and feed the squirrels with the corn that I pickup out of the fields when the harvest is done!!

Yesterday every song bird just vanished in mere seconds, I looked at the dried flowers in the pollinating garden and the little chickadees were hiding just like they were frozen. Few minutes later they were all at the feeder again.
Must been a the local Kestrel or Red Tail Hawk flying over.

Glad you feed the birds too! I really enjoy watching them especially the bluebirds coming in for the dried mealworms!
You certainly spoil them with mealworms.

I always think of picking up the cobs while out detecting, then forget about it usually. I end up buying 50lb bags of cracked corn for them. Though it does get expensive when the migration happens I can go through $8.00 a day in feed easily, filling the feeders twice a day.

Quite the assortment of birds you got there!
There are a few more species that I didn't get a photo of yesterday. The best day was a few years back when I counted 14 species in one day coming to the feeders.

Great friends to feed and watch.
We get a lot of Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers. They love the suet.

Mealworms are about all they will eat since they aren't a typical seed eating bird. If real hungry they will eat the hulled sunflower seeds and if really bad weather suet. They really are spoiled at my house. They come in for their last meal at about 4:30 pm then they fly about 75 feet away from the feeder to the roosting box to spend a cold night. You might say they have it made but i enjoy watching them.

Like those pics. Most birds I see up here in winter are ravens and crows. Those rascals can fend for themselves, which they do quite well.

We get a few red-bellied woodpeckers. They resemble a flicker, in size and habits.

Love the wood peckers haven't seen any Flicker's do have a red headed one.
I have been trying to get a photo of the Hairy Woodpecker this winter-comes-grabs-takes off all in a few seconds.
This photo is a couple years old.

Yes, that’s the red-bellied woodpecker. Ours even try drinking from the hummingbird feeders in the late spring. 😆
