I guess another great thing to remember about my childhood was having the ability to hang in there with the big guys when it came to sounding someone out, or wolfing on them. I'm not sure if this is just a NY term for for this little practice, perhaps other areas called it something different. 
If you're not familiar with wolfing, or sounding someone out, this is a practice of trading insults with your opponent. An example of this banter would be, "I'll sound you so low, that you will have to look up to look down." The taunting would go on back and forth until there was a clear winner, or one ran out of ideas
For the most part a winner is declared by the amount and longevity of the ooouuu's he received for his verbal assault, or until you opponent broke down and ran home.
Just wonder how many others practiced this as kids, or is it just a city thing?
