Working on my error coin ID skills. Can you check my homework?

Hunting for errors is not something i do very much but considering the hot dry weather its better than having a heat stroke.

Anyhow, i found these coins this morning and would like your opinion on my what i think they are.

First is this 1981 P quarter. At first glance i thought it was a filled P. But, I suspect it is post mint damage because of the indentation around the P.


Next are two different shield cents with what i think have die Cracks on the upper left part of the shield.


Have i correctly identified these coins?

You did ok. I think the quarter has a filled mint mark. I went through some quarters today and saw some deeply stamped mint marks.

I would say small die chip on the mint mark, and plating issues on the cents.

I agree...way too hot for digging.

Looks like the quarter is in fact a filled P. For some reason the filled P's of that time all have indentations.

In those days the MM was placed on the die by hand with a punch. I believe those "indentations" around the MM are a pressure ridge on the die face.

When the MM punch is hit and enters the die face, the punch displaces and raises the metal slightly upward around the MM. This will cause an indent on the coin surface around the MM if the displaced metal isn't polished off.
