ScienceDaily (Oct. 3, 2008) — Commander, Submarine Forces Pacific Fleet (COMSUBPAC), Rear Adm. Douglas McAneny announced October 2 that a sunken vessel off the coast of the Aleutian Islands is in fact the World War II submarine USS Grunion (SS 216).

a noble vessel crewed by brave men that went down fighting * they were doing there best to thwart the japanese in the alaska area. may god bless them and may their families find peace now that they have been found.

* while not "proven" its thought the vessel had battle damage -- thus it sank or was sunk by damage caused by attacks or a attack it self. -- they were vastly out numbered at the time.
