I wander what the worst detector was you ever used and why? I know i gonna get some negative response on mine but i'll do it anyway.
My worst detector was the Garret Ace 250. Nose heavy, bad separation and bad discrimination and hated those bell tones.

I agree, I gave it to my cousin after using it two times.

But then he found 6 golds his first year using it on a beach on the NC coast....

Go figure....

Yes how many golds he had found more if he had used a good detector on his first year.

Six gold sounds good to me. Success is getting the coil over the gold on a beach coupled with digging trash and iffy signals. So far I have done very well with the second half. . Not to much with the gold.

Worst detector used is usually the one that wasn't learned. Kinda like hearing someone say: " that is a dumb dog". No, just a dumb or lazy owner.

My first detector was the Garrett Ace 250 and i mastered it very well. I found some pretty stuff with it but when you find 2x the amount of (good)finds at hunted out places with the ace 250 with an other (midrange) detector then you can ask yourself some questions about the capacity of this detector.

I found more silver and gold with my ACE 250 in 2 years than I have with my AT Pro and Minelab SE combined for the next 5 years. I only hated the color

Garrett Ace 250 was kinda well yeah. Given tones and color Garrett makes products for the visially and hearing impaired, I alway joke. To the above criticism on the ace series I add that the tendency to falsify with hitting each blade of grass.

The worst was however a borrowed Etrac, which was at that time was the topnotch go-to machine.
I could not stand the necessary slo-mo swing speed. Hated it, that it pressed me into an unatural (at least for me) motion sequence.

Greet namxat

P.S: And yes, incredible finds hare also made with Garrett Aces

Me and the AT Pro did not get along, I wanted to like it - I really did but our relationship just didn't work out.

1970s Radio Shack.

get the after market performance coil for the 250 and it helps immensely. Totally changed the game for me. It's all about learning I reckon, I had a Radio Shack one when I was little, didn't know how to use it, and they from what I hear can be reliable, also had a bounty hunter quick draw back in 08 that I didn't have time to master I sold it when I PCS'd to another location.

Ditto on the color for the 250 thou, I like to be neither seen nor heard, and it makes it tough, the cover helps but it's still got the yellow on the arm rest (might sharpie that)

Mine was the Tesoro Lobo Super Traq. I got a great deal so I had to buy it and try it. I am a tones kind of guy, thus the Lobo and me were incompatible. It's a great machine, just not for me.

Heath GD-48. Couldn't find its way out of a paper bag..........

Garrett AT Pro. Bought it brand new. Used it a few times but it acted "flaky" and I did not like the display or the weight. Got the arthritis pretty good. Finally discovered there was something wrong with the coil. Go figure. Brand new and bad out of the box. Got it fixed and sold it. Didn't feel like bothering with it anymore.

Mine was the ACE 400 and its youth design short shaft (cuff) and heavy coil and no ground balancing.

The Ace 250 that I got for my daughter was the worst. The Garrett that talked to you was a close second, I hated that thing.

You know the same thing happened with mine when it was brand new. It would false with the slightest wiggle, so I drove it over to Garrett in Garland and they replaced the coil with a new one. The new one was better, but I still didn't have confidence in the machine so I sold it.

I second that motion! I think i found a couple pennies with mine but honestly...i saw the pennies before the coil went over them.

That puts you 2 pennies ahead of my take with that thing. I literally found nothing but shallow trash with it before I gave it away. It delayed my interest in metal detecting for years.
