Went back to my trusty tree today...pulled this out of the ground. Not sure if it is a button or not. It does have some words on it that I cannot read just yet and the hole in the middle is square. Any ideas on this one would be great...

Thats were I've seen it, a gas/oil lamp knob. Nice ID.

Kas, I think you are probably right. It's a knob of some sort. This one is 9/16 in diameter. Yours appears to be a little bigger. I'm unable to make out any words on it though

It's what they said it is. I got one last year with the manufacturer's info on it like yours has. Mine wasn't one of the mfr's that were listed earlier, but a netsearch did turn up the company as an 1800's lamp maker.

It's a good find.
