So I was looking on historic aerials and found the latest aerial map that is from 1964. I see a baseball field that is still there today. It is heavily used by was also heavily used back before 1964. Curious if I should try my luck out at the field...anyone recommend any areas to start looking there. The only thing that have been added since 1964 were dugouts.

they slide to first base
and at home plate
thing can be lost when that is done

Why wouldn't you want to hunt it? If it has the likelihood that coins may have been lost and you are legal hunting it, give it a shot. You just can't predict whether it will be worth your time or not till you put your coil to the ground.

there you go now drop the loop and give 50
that's 50
Indian head pennies

Hit that place up, it sounds like it could be good. Hit every inch of it, you should make finds all over. Work the outside of the ballfield also where the spectators would be hanging out watching the game. Keep us posted with pictures of your finds.

First base side of field and 3rd base side are where people would have watched game from and also set their belongings down before bleachers and dugouts added also the outfields where the act of throwing tends to fling rings off would be another good area and if there was a concession stand around that would be good to hunt around also any hillsides or trees for shade are great places also. Have fun sports fields are some of my favorite hunts except for the can slaw and tabbies.

Only other piece of info would be how hard it's been hit my other MD's

go get it! sounds great! happy hunting!

I'd be all over that place. I would predict that you will have to sort through all the junk (pull tabs, bottle caps, foil) that will be on the top before you get to the older stuff below. It may take you a few trips but I would grid that place out hard. Dig everything above iron, I'm sure there is jewelry there.

The only Merc dime I have found was in the outfield behind 1st base at a field that was established as part of a park in the early 1960's. I always had the feeling there should be silver there, but it took me 4 or 5 tries before I found it. This park is one of the trashiest I have hunted. I always spend as much time picking up surface trash as I do in actual detecting. If you are willing to do the time, you'll get the rewards.

I hope your out hunting it!!! A lot of nice silver and jewelry items have been recovered in places like that. You may have to wade thru the trash, pop tops foil, etc first. Being that old there has to be goodies there! GL. HH! And post pics!

This produced well. I was there for around 40 minutes before the rain started. I left as the thunderstorms were rolling in. It produced 3 silvers! All of the came from the visitors bleachers only. Can't wait to get back out there this weekend

Excellent finds for 40min :icon_thumright: Bleachers are great... find the concession stand *lots of junk but patience is a virtue* and rake it in. Does not look like its been hit hard for that kinda haul. Congrate's

If kids played there, a hat was probably passed to collect funds. Look on hillsides where parents sat to view the games.
