Wow! Are my detecting skills starting to slide! The most I've ever found...

I went to an older suburban park today with my buddy Watercolor in search of the ever-elusive silver George. Unfortunately. George was a no-show, but he sent a bunch of his clad cronies to tease me. We did find a lot of clad. :)

The funny thing is that I found :o SIX :o Scout neckerchief slides, along with a Scouting logo medal and a "God and Family" medal. This is the most Scout slides I've ever found in one hunt - or in all my hunts so far for that matter - and I hunt old Scout camps often. The Scouts must use this park for outdoor meetings.

So my question to you is, how many slides have you found? Anyone ever go over six in one hunt?

Also, anyone have an idea how old that slide on the upper left is?

Thanks for checking this out!

is the slide on the top left piece riveted in place?
it looks to be a 1960ish piece.

I belive I've only found 2 in one day, but I don't hunt scout camps too often.

Amazing, Neil.
Good luck in your quest for that elusive silver Washington.

No rivets, it is a one piece stamped slide with bend-over tabs.

Neil, right before I had to leave the park and you said you were going to hang around
awhile and hunt for a 4th slide, I had my doubts. . . you are truly the "Slide" :icon_king:

I have to admit it Mark, after slide number 3, I gave up on the silver and it became a hunt for more slides! :tongue3:

Though this site doesn't really give the age, it IS your upper left slide. Just scroll down the page and you'll see it.

Re: Wow! Are my detecting skills starting to slide! The most I've ever found...

Sadly, it seems you found the final battle site of the Great Boy Scout Revolution.

I imagine you are from the Illinois area. And I am surprised you do not remember. As the scholars would soon describe it as the bloodiest battle ever fought by two armies of children. As it seems, in the winter of 1987, amungst the most heated division of Scout Packs the organization had ever endured, a monster was born. "Who should truly hold supreme control over the Pack?" Must a Scout answer to a "Master"? Subject to the will of man...Or is every boy born a free Scout?...Answering to only himself and the "motto".

Pitting brother against brother, boy against boy, armies 9,000 strong drew battle lines through the chilled air. Just moments into the dawn, the sound of the first slingshot rang out. The battle was on. The great conflagration raged for a fortnight and when the last boy fell, only three remained. Eagle Scout Timothy "Red" Clugmeier, Webelos Anthony "Fat boy" Pugliosi, and Clifton "I'll crush your head with a tire iron" Moody. When they saw what happened on that hallowed ground they fell on bended knee and swore it would never happen again. Together they would re-write the rules of the "Master", and turmoil would not again visit the Scouts, until....the "Gays in the Scouts" debacle....but that is another story....

Many a scout lost his slide at that site.....I only ask....."Honor the dead...."
