Wow! Are my detecting skills starting to slide! The most I've ever found...

I went to an older suburban park today with my buddy Watercolor in search of the ever-elusive silver George. Unfortunately. George was a no-show, but he sent a bunch of his clad cronies to tease me. We did find a lot of clad. :)

The funny thing is that I found :o SIX :o Scout neckerchief slides, along with a Scouting logo medal and a "God and Family" medal. This is the most Scout slides I've ever found in one hunt - or in all my hunts so far for that matter - and I hunt old Scout camps often. The Scouts must use this park for outdoor meetings.

So my question to you is, how many slides have you found? Anyone ever go over six in one hunt?

Also, anyone have an idea how old that slide on the upper left is?

Thanks for checking this out!

Pangus, that explains it! :o I must show reverence to the site.

I will dig there no more, forever... ;D

Thanks all for the comments!

Re: Wow! Are my detecting skills starting to slide! The most I've ever found...

I'm still cracking up over Pangus' post!

Kimdad, I found a similar slide this fall at an old Jamboree site.
I will attach a photo here. If it is the same it is a early 1940's slide.

I gave the one I found to our State Rep. he is a big collector of Boy Scout badges and memorabilia.

See if yours has the same configuration.

Good Luck,
Mark

Great digs Kimsdad!!!

I'm in Michigan this week for Thanksgiving with the in-laws, but when I get back to California I'll post a pic of my slides that will blow your mind. 'nuff said - I'll keep you in suspense until first of next week

In the meantime, enjoy your slide into scouting ;D

I've found 19 all together, some were exhumed from the hallowed grounds of The Great Cub Scout Massacre of 1980, a noteworthy battle fought on the Missouri side prior to the revolution ;D :D (Great story Pangus!)

I dug several different types - 3 like the upper left one, 2 Webelos slides and 14 Cub Scout slides with the wolf logo. One of the cub slides has a red background (a newer kind) and the rest are dark blue. I think every one of them were found at schools.

the ones with the wolf on them are from the cub scouts "Webelo pack". the other one is a boy scout slide.

Congratulations on what would seem like some unusual finds, but from all the postings, it must not be that uncommon. :o

I haven't found one yet, but it may be only a matter of time - judging by everyone else's experiences....

The bottom left medal is a God and Country medal. It's given to scouts who do a project for their church. The projects can be long and arduous. This one is from a Protestant Church. I guess being an Eagle Scout pays off! :coffee2:
