I went to the bank today to cash my paycheck. I asked if he had any halfs. He said I have a bunch and started to pull out some rolls..When he opened his draw I saw a HUGE pile of silver halfs at least 50 no exageration..I said can I have all of thoose? He looked at me and smiled..Said no I keep all the silver for myself..I said o man come on..He said I will tell you what I will do. I will give you a few. So he gave me 13 of them..But man there was alot of silver in the draw..But at least he gave me some..

Wow... INCREDIBLY nice of him to hook you up like that. It's like one of us going into our private stash and making it smaller by selling off to other hunters at face... not something many if any of us would do!

Very cool.

I thought that it was very cool of him to do as well..

I fantacize of working at a bank just to rake in the goodies :)

My guess is that he let loose with some to help ensure OP doesn't complain to anyone about him.

I'm perfectly fine with tellers filting out the silver for themselves, but for god's sake, get them out of the drawer. They typically have three drawers and could easily keep them out of sight.

Any teller waiting more than one day to buy the coins is just asking for aggravation.

Very generous guy. Most would not do that. I turned in some coin at the machine today and I had this one guy all in my business. He wanted to know where I got all the halves and then he wanted to look through a few. I said sure knowing that he was most likely looking for silver. No chance he was going to find any at all. I told him that I collect all the dates and when I need money I turn in the less valuable ones. Just weird usually people are curious but not all up on you like that.

Makes you wonder what all he finds while working there.

A person working at a bank has a lot of power when it comes to first dibs on some nice coins

I'm glad you were able to get some from him.

the tellers i know would not have done that. that was pretty cool of him

that was very cool of him but i have to agree with xx in saying they should keep them out of site
i wonder why more tellers aren't aware of the silver and fish them out.....i know of a few who do....but you would think if money was going to be your career then you should know all there is to know about coins and currency especially the bonus of silver......

In highschool I worked at Wal-Mart part time. That was in the 80s but I got a decent amount of silver every single day.
I'd always save it on the side and buy it from the drawer at face value at the end of my shift.

i worked in a grocery store when i was in high school and when i moved to cashier i used to get at least 2 silver coins a week. that was in the 80's too. i did not even have to search dates or rims, the minute i put it in the drawer i could hear the silver *CHING* and i would get it out. has anyone else ever noticed that silver sounds different than clad?

i work at a whole foods as a cashier, so far i have found a SLQ and two wartime nicks.....the sound is way different than clad to me

silver has a distinctive ring to it...in the old days clerks had a piece of marble on their cash registers to drop the change on to see if it was silver
