Never seen a wrench like this,any ideas,about 5-6 inches long?

Top numbers: 18 24 18 Bottom reads : 5/16 3/16 1/4
Cant find another doing google search...thats what its called? gas cylinder wrench?

I can't make out a part number from those numbers but I've seen that wrench and I recall it being a universal cylinder wrench.

It is called an alligator wrench and was made for square Nuts. It has to be at least 60 years old but has little value unless there is a makers mark on it.Redirect Notice

If you google images it shows a ton of them,says for pipefitters for holding pipes when installing them etc.Will look through link you sent though...thanks.

Just saw a page stating for nuts also...maybe tool served different applications..can see it being used for both nuts and pipes

The numbers are individually over the holes,must be some measuring done somehow with the fractions?


I can't make out a part number from those numbers but I've seen that wrench and I recall it being a universal cylinder wrench.

Those holes are for flaring tubing on installations and the numbers are for the pipe size your working with.
