All, while detecting a property looking for artifacts to donate to a local historical society for an upcoming display, I unearthed this WWII Army Air Corps Sweetheart Locket. Although I thought it would be a great addition to the display, I knew their was a personal story behind it. After cleaning, I didn't dare try to pry the locket open to reveal a picture, as the hinge was likely frozen (a jeweler confirmed this). After researching deeds for families who owned the property I found two that had fathers who served during WWII. One family was local so I sent a picture to the surviving children who didn't recognize the locket as having been their parents. The other family had an career AAC/AF veteran who served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. I contacted the oldest son, who graciously accepted the locket in memory of his parents.
