Went out for a couple of hours today for the first time this year. Got the usual junk, 5 Wheaties, a 1947 D Rosie, and a set of Sterling Wings. The wings were 6.5 inches deep in a 1940’s yard so I I’m sure they are WWII. I looked them up when I got home and I think they are Army Air Crew but I’m not positive. Probably one of the coolest things I’ve ever found my first set of wings!! :hello2:

Any more info on them would be appreciated!! :read2:

Yes, they are Army Air Crew, clutch back type. I can see where it says "sterling" on the back. I don't see a maker's mark though, so can't tell who made them. Shame someone put the other holes in it, probably to wear as a necklace or bracelet.

Awsome!! :occasion14: Thanks.. I was wondering about the holes too.
After looking at your link I think they are the R.& J. Quetel Collection.
There is still some of the black stuff on them. I don't know what it is but the wings in the link are coverd with some black stuff almost like paint too.

army air corp. congrats on the silver! cool find

I did a little research and found that the Army Aircrew post dates the Air Corps. (1927-1942). The Aircrew wings are from 1942 and are still being issued today. Good find.

The army air crew wings that are issued as of now have a little different design in the middle of the wing. I was a crew chief on Chinook helicopters for three years.. Awesome job...

cool wings nice first outing this year

its going to be a good year

Very nice wings but I gotta ask if you polished them. Looks like you did. You see, most of us here at T-Net are 'patina-heads'. We seek it, we love it, we can't get enough of it. It's like a drug :D
I learned the hard way myself after I over-cleaned the bronze badge in my display pic :'(
Keep at it and I look forward to seeing more of your finds but resist the urge to shiny up your old finds.

Nope no polish. Nothing more than soap and water.. I'm sure you well know that silver usually comes out of the ground shiny and needs no polish. I've been at this a while and have a pretty good idea what to clean and how. I would like to shiny these up a little more but I wont.. Thanks for looking.. ;D
