With no options left for field hunting i got invited by a buddy who recently got permission to a large farm all in pasture, roughly located near roman settlements, but mostly in the autumn 1944 front line. Looking over the many acres of grass i decided to try a small valley with old trees west of the farmhouse.

We soon started finding rifle ammo both German and US. Here .50cal and glasses of a gas mask.

Cut off top of a 90mm casing, you see the crimp where the shell was sitting. No idea why this was cut off, start of some trench art?

Coil of a German Petromax pressure lamp, like the Coleman ones used by US.

cool finds. interesting that the coffee is still completely readable. Hopefully you won't come across any unexploded mines

They were the same 30 years ago and still are. Good printed. When i started detecting as a kid we found these still sealed. We loved to open the Orange juice ones and taste that stuff. :laughing7: We also found usable shoe cream and used it on our detecting boots. And i had tins with insect repellent, rusted outside and inside it's all good.
Mines are out there but not heard about any accidents the last years....

Hi tinpan. I'm proud i made it on your list of threads to bash! :coffee2:
I know it's not everyones general knowledge when first US troops entered Germany, but if you're interested in history i'm sure you will find a nice graspable read with a quick google search. Thanks for stealing my time. :icon_thumleft:
