WWII pins, arm bands, flag.

Hi all,
I'm new to joining the site but have been lurking around for a few months. Anyway I got some WWII stuff from my mom that she got when her step-dad passed away. My mom didn't want it, and gave it to me as I showed a interest in it. I was about 10 when she gave me it and Ive held onto it since (im 28 now). I'm just curious as to some the history of the items and maybe someone could speculate as to the value of my collection??

I know my grandfather was a doctor so maybe he was a medic in the war? also i believe everything thing to be in good shape except the big nazi flag (very moth eaten.) and the cloth with the swastika on it above the arm band looks like its for a car antenna? The story is he got all the german stuff off a dead nazi soldier. any help would be appreciated. and thanx for looking.

"The Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter (in English: Cross of Honour of the German Mother), referred to colloquially as the Mutterehrenkreuz (Mother’s Cross of Honour) or simply Mutterkreuz (Mother’s Cross), was a state decoration and civil order of merit conferred by the government of the Deutsches Reich (German Reich) to honour a “Reichsdeutsche” (imperial-German) mother for exceptional merit to the German nation. The decoration was conferred from between 1939 until 1945 in three classes of order, bronze, silver, and gold, to Reichsdeutsche mothers who exhibited probity, exemplary motherhood, and who conceived and raised at least four or more children in the role of a parent.--per Wiki

The next pic down (pic showing your ring finger) is a German Veterans Association Eagle Dress White Uniform Badge.

The lapel pin is an enameled veteran's shield which featurees the veteran's memorial. The reverse is stamped "Ges. Gesch" (meaning 'patent pending'). The pin has the serrations on the stem to keep the large accessory in place.

The Selective Service medal is a WW II medal issued by Congress and given to people who served on local draft boards during the war and shortly thereafter. (Source: Worthpoint)

If you turn the ribbon bar with the battle stars so that the black strip is on the left versus the right, then you'd have the ribbon in proper alignment: It's a European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign ribbon bar.

One of your armbands reads "Deutsche Wehrmacht". These armbands were worn by non-uniformed personnel serving with the German Armed Forces from 1935-45.

The vessel, 'General Daniel I. Sultan', was not so-named until after WW II. During WW II she was named the 'Admiral W. S. Benson' . The 'Benson' was decommissioned in 1946 and then reacquired by the Navy in 1950 and name changed to the 'General Daniel I Sultan'. The 'post card' is dated about 1957. The 'Sultan' served in Korea, Viet Nam and other nearby areas. Your kin may have served in both WW II and Korea.

The armband 'Im Dienst der Deutschen Wehrmacht' means 'In the Service of the German Armed Forces'. It was worn by non-German civilians in the German service and other auxiliary volunteers.

I believe the value of your collection is to keep it as such. To increase it's value, I'd add a geographic timeline of this Captain's activities. How complete is the diary that you have shown?
