X-30 VDI Readings?

Just got an Xterra-30 and trying to figure out the VDI on it is confusing. Zinc pennies were reading around 28-36 and copper was around 38-40. Has anyone seen a chart that tells what the numbers might indicate? I found a dime but forgot to write down what its reading was. So far I like the machine but I am finding it very confusing as to why the VDI bounces around so much.

The amount of corrosion and crud on the coin will affect the reading, will on any of them, i know on many of the ID machines iv'e had it did, if all coins are the same , clean, or corrosion wise, you'll get same reading every time, but it just don't work that way.

mastereagle22...I see you just got the x-30..I'm thinking about getting one myself..Just not sure about the price..It is a used machine in good condition..Guess what I am asking is what would be a fair price to offer the guy?

I cannot really advise you of price other than to tell you that it cost us $399.95 for ours. I paid $350 for my Deleon and they sell new $470.00 so that was a good deal to me. Go to the Minelab forum here on Treasure net and post a question asking how others determine what a used detector is worth. But as a wise man who has detected for over 25 yrs told me once you swing your detector you are then using a used detector. Didn't make much sense to me when he said it but it does now. In my humble opinion is you don't save more than $50.00 it isn't worth buying used because of the unkown variables involved, my PERSONAL comfort level is $100.00, I need to save that much or it isn't worth it to me to buy used. Again just my humble opinion.
