I'm just getting back into the hobby, previously having a Tesoro Sidewinder. With the help of others here on the forum, I've pretty much narrowed my choice for a new detector down to a X-70. Living in the So.Cal desert has me really close to gold prospecting, but I'd also like to do an occasional park and beach trip. I'd like to use it mostly for old home sites as that is my favorite thing. I know the X-70 would excel at these really well. I'd like to also consider the Sovereign GT. This looks like a great detector and would like to know if it can do gold nuggets. I like the idea of being able to hip mount when needed.
I'd also like to know what people think about displays and meters. I've never owned a detector with a display. I understand they are not always reliable information, but I see a lot of videos with people describing the numbers that their targets register. My question for the experience folks out there is, "once you get the hang of your detectors noises, do you really need a display to tell you what numbers it thinks the target is"?
I've done some searches but can't find info on the accessory meter that Minelab sells for the Sovereign GT. Things like what the meter tells you and how helpful it is.
Thanks for any help.
