Any suggestions for beach hunting coil selections? Not really looking for depth, just sensitivity and covering area. The DD i have wants to float so it takes some effort to keep in the water. Standard coil is no trouble in the water. Still curious to the differences of frequency coils. Don't they all work the same? I understand the DD as opposed to the standard.

I use stock coin on the beach i got it wet couple times,so far its performing very well,i didnt tried dd coil coz u cant get it wet and its VERY hard to clean it if sand will get inside.
Well u can get it bit wet but its not water resistant really ,unless u will work on that plug.I saw some guy in australia detecting gold in water using dd,but he kinda improved it.

Stock coil works awesome for pinpoint, and gives very good area cov.

kindly help me out here...all the dd coils cant get wet??? Lemme know please as I would be mad as blazes if I ruined a coil...

thanks in advance.

??? ??? :stop:..... All i know i have used all my DD ..Double D coils in water and never had a problem............. I use the Sovereign in the water they are all DD on the Sovereign.'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' All Excaliber coils are DD i used it in the water and seeing as it is a water detector it better be able to go in the water....................and all my Garrett DD coils i have used in the water....................My first Sovereign back in 1992 every one said the coil was not waterproof i used it 7 years and used it in the water every year................I had a X-Terra 70 before and used the stock coil in the water no problem...........Just got another X-Terra 70 this week and that coil will be going in the water.......................................

Jim, are you gonna be hunting salt water or fresh water.. am curious after ya get your xt70, I will be dying to know what settings you will be using too.. mucho thanks in advance, I love to compare and tryout what others use too.

As I understand it, the 5 x 10 DD is not waterproof, but the 6 inch DD and the 10 1/2 inch DD's are waterproof.

Yess, stock is ok i use it in ocean water, but gold prospecting dd isn't waterproof and good luck to u if u will sue it in salt water, its basically gone after couple uses, salt will kill it.
There was guy posting here from Australia very smart prospector and he water proofed hes coil by adding some stuff on edges and around plug.

I didnt use that one in water and i will not go to salt water,i will add tape around and hit fresh creek streams and thats it.
But well thats me.

I have the 6 inch high freq. dd sniper coil? is that too not waterproof....how do I findout what ones are waterproof and a 9 in. concenctric high freq comming too?

Booty,
The ONLY Xterra coil that is not waterproof is the 5x10 dd coil. All others are good to go in the fresh or salt water. It beats me why they simply didn't make the 5x10 waterproof?

thank you...phew too as I was worried for a second.

yes, I did sell a m6 to get the xt70 and got another m6 which is going hopefully...as I cant handle the weight of it anymore.. so its the xt70 now

I need to find a good beach program with the right settings and the right coil to use.. sometimes things dont go as its said in the manuals.. and boy I amdoing something wrong with the beach settings, cause I get falsing in wet sand, not stable at all and in the water is worse... I have my sense 15-17 and I noise cancel alot.

Other than setting it in beach mode you have to raise the disc and reduce the sens. Do this until it runs smoother.
There have been a lot of good reports of hunters using the 10.5 DDHF coil too.

The reply to the 5 X 10 DD coil is correct. It is the only X-Terra coil that is not waterproof. Go to www.findmall.com. Click on the X-Terra section and then look at the FAQFAQ post. It has the best instructions for all types of detecting with the X-Terra on the net. You will learn a lot from reading it.

Good hunting, John K
