Relic Hunting
My wife and I stayed on the Delta Queen Riverboat anchored in Chattanooga this week. I called our friend Tnmountains (Richard) and invited him down to the boat to talk relics and share his knowledge of Chattanooga Native American & CW history with us. He brought a large lead heel plate about half an inch thick and 3.5 inches wide with him that he dug at from the base of Lookout Mountain. I had requested a picture of it from him a couple of months ago for an article on how Confederates needed to improvise during the war. That article will be published in North South Trader’s Civil War Magazine soon and also contains pics of Nana40’s and Breezie’s CS modified relics they have found.
The pic is of a large thin brass heel plate that I dug in a Morgan CSA Cavalry camp that is also 3.5 in. wide along with Richard’s lead heel plate with nail holes. I feel they are both from cavalry boots. Brass heel plates are common finds but Richard’s plate is extraordinary.
Before the Tennessee Trio hits the hay and winter wheat fields with more hunt videos, I talked my wife into videoing me talking about the 1862 Battle of Hartsville, TN on location today. Enjoy the history & HH, Quindy.

Q, You did a GREAT job narrating this historical video, and Kathy you did a wonderful job on the video taping. (I didn't get dizzy watching it.) At the beginning, I thought the Cicadas were going to overtake the audio. :laughing7:
Congratulations on the heel tap, and I wish you a 1000 more relics!

:)
Breezie

Great informative video Q & K. Thank you. :icon_thumleft:

Very nice heel plate find Richard. Better than a brass one. :hello2:

Q-
The only reason they snuck up on us Indiana folk is, we were waiting in line for our morning Starbuck's coffee. We would have been ready to go after that.

Thanks for the post buddy, and I can't wait to detecting with the Tenn Trio! :occasion14:

Thanks Breezie. My first CW bullet came from in front of the hay barn in the camp tent lines in 1995. I was hooked!! HH, Q.

I enjoyed meeting you and your lovely wife Kathy aboard the Delta Queen . It was great to swap the history and the relics. I thank you sir. On another note I think that your video proves something that has perplexed us here in Chattanooga for some time. That Braxton Braggs last two really good decisions must have been giving John Hunt Morgan permission to proceed in Harstville and then the decision to elevate him in rank after his enormous success!

Thanks DUG. We are looking forward to seeing you this Fall. Dman can't wait-LOL. I thought the birds were going to sweep down & scoop me up while Kathy was videoing. Q.

Richard (Tnmountains), we had a great time. You sure know Chattanooga history. See you this Fall. Q.

So glad I found this video,I always enjoy yours Quindy. I have often thought about taking a little cruise on the Delta Queen and wondered where all you went. I saw it rounding the bend when we were on our way to the Marietta show last year and something about that time in history and the style of the boat really intrigued me.

Thanks Cgirl. The Delta Queen is now permanently achored near Coolidge Park in Chattanooga as Maritime law (in 2009) does not permit vessels with wooden hulls to carry passengers. There is a good possibility that the boat will be bought by investors, retrofitted, and moved to Ohio or CA. HH, Q.

Thank's for the great history lesson it was well filmed and very educational . [with that lead heel plate . one would really be walking "heavy footed" . ] but the Reb's had to do what they had to do.

Thamks D. They had to "make do" like the homemade lead knuckles Nana recovered from a CS camp. The lead heel would be better than no heel I guess. Hopefully, we will dig enough on our first summer hunt tomorrow to post & video. Thanks for stopping by & HH, Quindy.

Very interesting, Quindy. Thanks for sharing. HH
