After many years of faithfull service, one my rechargeable battery packs gave up the ghost. After looking into buying a new battery pack, I decided to do some open heart surgery and replace the batteries myself. The operation was a success and the battery pack worked great. This was two or three years ago.
Lately I noticed that the XLT detector would just quit working. Looked like a dead battery. Every time this happened it was the rebuilt battery pack that was in use.
Gee, must be the batteries again. So I opened up the unit and noticed that one of the battery pairs was barely toughing the contact point. HUMMMMM. Why is this happening. It appeared that there is a space at the end of the battery pack (opposite side form the charging port) and the two batteries sitting in this spot had slipped out of the notch that was molded in to the case to hold them in place. I folded up a small piece of cardboard and cut it to size. Slipped it into this space to hold the batteries firmly in place. Worked like a champ.
Guess I will have to use the new batteries for my digital camera.
Should have investigated the cause before I made the ASSumption that it was a bad battery. Live and learn.
