i got a xlt about 7 or 8 years old. some times when i use it the screen will go blank on me, would a bad coil do this? i called whites and for 150$ they said they would fix it i went back to the dealer years ago and he said he sent it off and was not a thing wrong with it and then i see a screw that looks like a wood one in the side of it if it could be fixed for that i might send it in but for a dealer to do you that way it sucks

a bad coil will not do that unless it is shorting out the whole unit.

either your battery is weak, .. yes an old pack might read sort of ok but the screen blanks out, or you have a bad screen / worn out screen piece.

the heat can also make it blank out or black out if you are stewing in the sun.... look at the underside I think, there's directions how to change the contrast on the viewing screen to compensate for this...

probably not the cure but it might help
