Junk ? Thought it was at first, turns out this is a lockplate off of possibly a Rev War musket. Might be British but hard to tell. I had actually put this piece in my scrap pile 😲 Saw a pic of one today then realized I found one just like it back in January. Went and retrieved it. Now that was truly saving some history ! First gun part I have ever found 😃=CONFIG]1705882[/ATTACH]

Yeah it almost got tossed. Luckily someone had posted one on Instagram today then I realized what it was

Nice id. Are you planning on cleaning it up with electrolysis?

Yes going to run it through and see if I can get some markings off of it Maybe I will get lucky

GL with the cleanup. Like to see it afterwards. Nice save.

When I found my first and only one earlier this year, I kept banging it with a shovel as it wouldn't come out of the side of the hole! They are not easy to find, you did great.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Thanks will post after cleanup and electrolysis bath. Hoping for some markings to help identify 😃

Thanks ! Was just happy I didn't throw all the scrap away yet. Hoping for a good cleanup to maybe identify it better.

With a small piece like that, you might want to consider an apple cider vinegar bath in lieu of electrolysis. Nice save!

Can't wait to see it cleaned and I'd for it Well done

Thanks Valley Ranger for the tip will definitely try that before electrolysis 👍 Excited about what might be on it 😃

Nice plate & congratulations on the save

Not to highjack your thread, but I dug one back in February & didn't pay much attention to it, just bagged it to only discover what I had when I got back home. my cleaning did reveal any markings.WIN_20190221_11_46_42_Pro.webp
