XT18000 Will Not Balance

I just picked up an XT18000 and cannot get the unit to ground balance. Or at least that's what I "assume" is going on. It just emits a constant and extremely loud mono-tone. I am a "Whites" guy with no experience using Minelabs, is this a constant tone machine? I have the original Instruction Manual and have gone through all the steps but I don't think that this unit is doing what it's supposed to. Any tricks or suggestions from experienced Minelab users?

On that unit I think its the threshold you hear with no target a low tone
