Yard sale find

Good morning everyone,I was on vacation last week and randomly stopped at a yard sale,the house was really old I'm always looking for cool antiques for my collection and I ran across these,They are J.Stevens tip up 22 patented sept6,1864.One of these was made about 1905-1907 but other one doesn't have a serial number so who knows.Just wanted to share with everyone.Happy hunting and all he safe in the heat.

I paid 90 for the pair the one on left is missing a few parts but will make a good display,the other one I'll restore to working condition only black powder though lol

The absolute cut-off year for a handgun to qualify as an exempt antique is before 1898. Anything made in the 1900s is classified as a modern restricted or prohibited firearm.

Pardon my ignorance, but why is that a problem? Assuming op is in USA there is nothing prohibiting anyone (minor exceptions) from purchasing a firearm from a private seller.

If it were in Canada, PPJ is correct.
Those old pistols are neat! There is low velocity modern .22 ammo that might also be low enough pressure to be usable in them.

Was thinking the same thing, subsonic ammo MAY be an option. Not sure if these pistols are 22 short, long or long rifle. If short only a CB short (made by CCI)would be a possible option. If it’ll handle longs Aguilla’s Super Colibri are even slower. Obviously confirm with an expert prior to trying either.

I'm pretty sure it's the same in the USA under federal law.

You are correct if purchased through/from a dealer. For Individual to individual sales it’s non-applicable
