Yeah Buddy.......... just got permission for some awesome early 1800's home sites.
I have been hunting a little ghost town with some descent results on and off for the last year. Lots of buttons and a few scattered CW relics. I was able to take an old map that I got a copy of during the communities bicentennial celebration and match it up with the current view from Google earth and bam. I found the southern boundaries of the town just a couple of days ago. The town was a small settlement on the TN River at a ferry crossing and the powers that be decided to literally divide up the property into lots and sell them to create a town in 1812. A courthouse, jail, school, and livery were immediately built and it grew from there. By 1814 it had 2 hotels, 3 saloons, a prep school, and several merchants and in less then 10 years it became the county seat. The coal mines pulled all of the labor away in the 1870's and now only one of the original homes still stands. Most of it is pasture or woods today. Virtually impossible to find maps etc of anything in this rural little TN county so hoping this one from a private collection will pay off. I have tried to catch the land owner in for a couple of days and haven't been able to. I HATE to ask for permission on the phone, but seeing as how we have met before I just gave it a shot. He immediately gave me the go-ahead and told me there were several stone foundations in the woods right where I asked to hunt. Bingo. He has owned the land for over 40 years and said to his knowledge it has never been hunted. The main part of the town where the churches and courthouse were have been hit by several people but I have no doubt the last couple I have hit have been virgin. Here is hoping these are the same.
Here are a few pictures of some finds.......... this place has snake bit me on coins. NADA
